Less than ten minutes by car from EuroParcs Poort van Maastricht, Valkenburg becomes Christmas Town Valkenburg from 13 November 2026 to 3 January 2027. Two underground Christmas markets, in the Gemeentegrot and the Fluweelengrot caves, form the heart of the town; above ground, WinterGlow on the Walramplein is free to enter.

Come on a Saturday or Wednesday evening for the Christmas Parade through the town centre: Saturdays at 7.30 pm (14, 21 and 28 November, 12 and 19 December) and Wednesdays at 7 pm (9, 16, 23 and 30 December).Good to know: the caves are open from 13 November to 30 December, weekdays from 11 am to 7 pm and weekends from 10 am to 7 pm. Book your timed tickets online, as weekends often sell out. Weekdays are quieter.

The showstoppers are the 1,000-square-metre covered ice rink and the 45-metre Ferris wheel with enclosed glass gondolas and views across the city. Little ones love the carousel, and the Grand Café and the Almhütte are the places to warm up again.
 

Practical: open Sunday to Thursday from 10 am to midnight and Friday and Saturday until 1 am; the Christmas market closes daily at 10 pm. On 24 December the square is open until 6 pm, on 25 December from 11 am to 6 pm. Dogs on a lead are welcome, and weekdays are quieter than weekends. After skating, dining and shopping in Maastricht, you are back in the peace of the park within fifteen minutes.
